Is PhotoCraft Legit? ArtCraft, GitHub & Namesakes

Identify the open-source PhotoCraft project, its ArtCraft team and licenses. Distinguish this independent website from official sources and similarly named apps.

Identity and links checked 18 October 2026.

Which PhotoCraft are we talking about?

The project covered here is the open-source Rust image editor in the storytold/photocraft GitHub repository. Its README identifies the ArtCraft team and links to the PhotoCraft product page on getartcraft.com. Those cross-linked sources establish which project this guide describes. They do not verify every third-party website, installer or app that uses the PhotoCraft name.

The Crafting Apps guide explains its relationship with VectorCraft, FilmCraft, LightCraft and WordCraft. Shared branding identifies a family of separate projects, not a single editor containing every app's features.

Is photocraft.tools the official website?

No. This is an independent resource website that hosts the original v0.12.0 browser release and writes guides around it. We are not the ArtCraft team or Adobe. The upstream product website and GitHub repository are linked in the sources below. A browser editor working on this domain does not make this domain the project's official homepage.

For a reproducible record of what this site serves, inspect the source, licenses and provenance guide. Desktop files linked from our download guide are upstream assets, separate from the browser build hosted here.

What do the licenses establish?

The upstream code is available under MIT or Apache-2.0, with separate terms for third-party assets and branding. Code licensing explains permissions to use, inspect and distribute software; it does not establish Photoshop ownership, Adobe endorsement, a security audit or full feature compatibility. PhotoCraft is an independent implementation, not an official Adobe product.

Distinguish similarly named apps and downloads

Check the developer, repository owner and destination link rather than trusting an icon or product name. A Google Play app with PhotoCraft in its name is not evidence of an ArtCraft release. The Android guide compares the identities and records the release sources checked. The same approach applies to tutorials, APK sites and download ads.

For a desktop download, enter through the upstream release links and check the exact asset and version. Never supply a payment, password or API key simply because another site says it is required to use the editor hosted here; this browser editor has no account or payment flow.

A real project can still be unfinished

Project identity and fitness for a task are separate questions. Our pinned browser build is early alpha, with no autosave or crash recovery and limited real-world PSD compatibility. Read the hands-on browser review and test a copy of a small document. For file handling, analytics and download checks, see the safety guide.

Follow the identity chain yourself

Begin with the upstream repository linked in the sources and inspect its own product and release links. Compare the owner, product name, version and download filename. Then compare those records with the website or store page you encountered. A name match is a clue to investigate, not evidence that two applications share a publisher or codebase.

This website's public identity is the photocraft.tools maintainer, reachable through the contact page. Its role is independent hosting and explanatory content. We do not claim to represent the upstream contributors, approve their releases or speak for Adobe. The About page and editorial policy explain what we contribute and how to question a published statement.

Separate legitimacy from fitness for your task

A real open-source project can still be early alpha, lack a feature you need or fail on a particular file. Conversely, an independent guide is not automatically counterfeit merely because it is not the official project website. Judge identity from attribution and source links; judge suitability from the result of a representative workflow.

Our browser review covers import, a visible edit, PNG export and a small PSD save/reopen. It is not an independent security audit or proof of professional Photoshop compatibility. The supplied PSD is produced by PhotoCraft, not a Photoshop-authored compatibility corpus. If a task requires a specific editing structure or destination application, test that requirement explicitly.

Read licenses without inventing endorsements

MIT and Apache-2.0 are software licenses, not a blanket permission to present an independent site as an official brand property. Retained notices, provenance and attribution help explain the origin of the hosted application. They do not imply that the upstream project endorses every statement in our guides or every third-party site that links to us.

When downloading, inspect the actual artifact and the license material associated with it. A same-name store app can use different code, terms and privacy practices. The Android guide records the scope of our namesake check. Do not transfer claims about this browser build's local processing to a different application just because both use the word PhotoCraft.

Recognize a misleading distribution claim

Be cautious when a page uses “official” without a verifiable project link, offers an unrelated package as a required installer or promises features that are not present in the identified release. Compare the product and platform labels around a download action. A macOS Launcher disk image is not a Windows PhotoCraft installer or an Android APK.

This website's editor does not require a PhotoCraft account, paid subscription or remote AI key. The pinned release does not provide generative fill or prompt editing. If another product does, evaluate its own publisher and terms rather than assuming a shared service. A legitimate identity check should reduce ambiguity instead of turning every unfamiliar name into a fraud accusation.

Report an identity or attribution problem

Send the exact page URL, the disputed statement and the source that helps clarify it. For a download mismatch, include the product, release and filename rather than sending an executable attachment. For a rights concern, describe your relationship to the material. Do not include passwords or unrelated private information.

We can correct this website's text and links; upstream maintainers control their own repository and release process. If a future source changes, a guide should be updated with evidence rather than continuing an old categorical claim. Check the article date and linked release, and use the changelog to understand substantive website changes separately from application development.
